1 corner of Dome left; demolition goes on
Indianapolis Star report - March 16, 2009
Only a small section of the southeast corner of the RCA Dome remains standing, as workers clear the site to make way for the expansion of the Indiana Convention Center.
Sabre Demolition of New York, which won the $3.5 million contract to demolish the Dome, has two more months to remove the last remnants of the sports stadium, whose upper reaches were imploded last fall.
More than a dozen excavators, loaders and other large construction equipment are deployed on the site, sorting and flattening the stadium debris and building new foundations for the convention center expansion that will open in early 2011.
“We are on schedule. The weather is cooperating,” said Lori Dunlap, deputy director of the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority, which opened the site to a media tour today.

The RCA Dome was built in 1984 for $80 million. The new Lucas Oil Stadium is scheduled to be complete by Aug. 15, about a week before the Indianapolis Colts are scheduled to play a preseason game there.
