Silicone Plant Demolition

Project Background

Abatement of asbestos containing materials identified on surveys within multiple structures located within an active Facility. Crews followed abatement activities performing universal and electronic waste removals, in addition to selective gut out activities. Identified structures were impacted with highly flammable silica dust. Identified dust was cleaned prior to demolition, and the building was kept adequately wet during demolition to avoid a release.

Several structures housed reactors that required internal tubing removal. Reactor shells were cut and displaced or craned out in sections. Upper levels of structures were demolished via alternate crane pick-down and use of a high reach excavator equipped with shear. Several measures have been taken to provide protection for active structures, utilities and equipment within demolition limits. Lower structures were demolished conventionally with a standard excavator equipped with shear attachment. Structures were demolished flush to grade including small concrete containment areas for future redevelopment.
